Step 1: Fill up with fuel.

  • Empty pellet grill: Open the lid and remove any of that extra gunk with a sponge, putty knife, or anything else at your disposal. Avoid using harsh abrasive sponges because they’ll scratch up both surfaces!
  • Clean the door: Depending on how long you have been using it, the inside of this lid may have some buildup. Use a putty knife to remove any buildup that has accrued, and keep it clean for next time!
  • Clean the grates: Cleaning the grates is easy with a non-abrasive sponge and dish detergent. Once you’ve scrubbed them, soak them overnight in soapy water for easier clean up the next day! Avoid using power washers or your dishwasher as it may scratch their porcelain enamel surface finish.
  • Clean the deflector and flame broiler: When cleaning a pellet grill, remove all the buildup with putty knives. How to cook steak on a Pit Boss pellet grill?

First option

  • Allow the steak to rest for 60 minutes before grilling 
  • Ensure that no moisture on the surface, as it will allow you to create the seared texture perfectly
  • Preheat the Pit Boss to a high temperature of at least 350 degrees F
  • Place the meat, and you will hear the sizzling sound once the steak lands on the grill. 
  • When searing, place the steak on the hottest part of the grill for the best results

Second option

  • Prepare the steak before firing it on the grill. 
  • Please take out the steak from the refrigerator and clean it well. 
  • Make sure the moisture is removed from the surface. 
  • Allow the steak to rest on the counter for around 60 minutes. 
  • Preheat the Pit boss to 180 degrees F
  • When the grill has stabilized at the desired temp, place the steaks in the cooking area (put them in the location with minimal direct heat and max flow of smoke)

  • Won’t start 

If your grill does not turn on, you should check the power outlet to see if it works or not. If not, unplug and replug it, ensuring that the GFI circuit does not trip. 

After that, shift the temp dial to Offsetting and move to the Smoke function. The LCD screen must light up. Contact the manufacturer when the GFI trips. 

If nothing changes, move the grates and grease tray, and examine the igniters. Still, nothing happens. Replace the 5 amp fuse on the control panel.

Check the drill. If it does not feed pellets in the firebox, it needs to be replaced. 

  • Won’t ignite

If your Pit Boss gets the igniting problem, tread carefully:

  1. Contact the manufacturer if the grills stop lighting up in 18 months.
  2. If your grill is old, examine the igniter and follow the above step.
  3. If still not lit, replace the igniter. 
  • Does not produce smoke 

You might think that the whole smoker is broken and you need to replace it, but actually, it ís one of the problems with temp, firepot, or pellets. The perfect temp is from 60 to 90 degrees F with a P4 setting. 

For more smoke out, cook at a lower temp around 225F, and make sure that your pellets are dry without clumping. 

  • Temp issues:

If your grills do not get to the temp, the reason might be that the firepot is not getting the oxygen to reach and maintain the required temperature. In this case, you should check the fire pot, examine the airways, and make sure there are no obstructions. Look at the fan and make sure that it works nicely. If the burn pot has holes, replace it. 

The temp is not high enough also because of low pellets. So you should add some more pellets and ensure they are not damp or old. 

If your grills get too hot, it means that the P level is too low. Check the temp dial is set to smoke and push the P setting button-up for boost level. It will increase the time between pellet cycles and lower the ambient temp. 

  • Err code:

If your Pit Boss gets this code, resolve it by unplugging and restarting from scratch. Check the sensor and wipe it before reconnecting to the power socket. 

The ErH means the heat and temp control issues. If your grill is overheating, turn it off and leave it for a few minutes before relighting and removing some pellets. 

ERP means the temp dial is switched on when your grill is plugged in. For repairing, switch the temp dial to “Off” wait for some minutes, and set the dial back to your needed temp. 

  • LCD is blank

The main reason is that the grill is not plugged in. make sure your outlet works and is plugged in first. If it is still blank, the circuit board fuse might be tripped and should be replaced. 

The blank LCD also means that GFI has been tripped. Hence, ensure that your connections and components are dry and not overheating. 

  • Flare-ups 

This is very annoying and dangerous, especially when they have a chance to escalate into a full-blown grease fire. Kêp them below 350 degrees F when cooking foods that contain a lot of greases to avoid this issue.
